"In 2009, as I gazed over our land, I knew something was very wrong. It had been fallowed for decades and was full of weeds, thistles, useless grasses, and little else. I saw that thousands of farms all over the U.S. were going bankrupt every year. That’s when I knew something had to change. I had to learn how to repair the land by looking deeper, under the surface, into the soil. No more chemical-induced soil. No more fallow ground. My challenge was, and still is, to build a rich, alive foundation for native, deep rooted, perennial grasses to grow. How do I regenerate the soil and become a carbon farmer? How can this improve the land we use, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the food we eat?
